Students will learn the basics of painting using only three pigments to interpret a range of still-lifes comprised of simple geometric shapes and plaster casts. Principles learned in drawing classes will be applied in learning to paint. This course will cover a range of topics that have to do with how paint behaves when painting from the still-life, such as edges, opacity, transparency, and color theory.

This introductory class teaches beginners the basics of color theory using acrylic paints. Students will learn how to mix any color from the basic primary colors plus black and white. Students will also learn the difference between cool and warm colors, the use of complementary colors, and how things like hue and value work together. Students will be given prompts to help give guidance, or they can choose their own subject matter.

Students will learn the traditional art of pysanka, a wax-resist method of dyeing eggs that dates back centuries. Led by instructor Svitlana Tararuk, participants will be guided through the process of creating two beautifully designed eggs using the pysanka style. Led by instructor Svitlana Tararuk, participants will be guided through the process of creating two beautifully designed eggs using the pysanka style. Students will get a step-by-step demonstration of the techniques involved and will, then, have the opportunity to experiment with different colors and designs as they craft intricate designs of their own. By the end of the class, each student will have two unique and stunning pysanky to take home as a cherished handmade keepsake.

Students will learn the basics of painting, using only three pigments, to interpret a range of still-lifes comprised of simple geometric shapes and plaster casts (depending on the student). Principles learned in drawing classes will be applied in learning to paint. This course will cover a range of topics that have to do with how paint behaves when painting from the still-life, such as edges, opacity, transparency, warm and cool colors (color theory), etc.

This course offers an immersive exploration of the art of portraiture painting. Participants will learn techniques and methods specifically tailored to capturing the essence and details of human faces, using photographs as references. Students will develop their painting skills in the representational or abstract style of their choice. The emphasis will be on the techniques and methodology of painting and on individual problem solving. Topics covered include color, composition, texture, tools and materials.
