DESIGNING WOMEN

In 1990, Wichita Center for the Arts Board Chair, Virginia Mastio, envisioned a women’s volunteer group who would support the organization by coordinating and mounting special fundraising events. The group, named Designing Women by then President Bill Otton, held its first regular luncheon meeting in January 1991. Since its inception, Designing Women’s primary project has been the annual Holiday Tables fundraiser, in which local businesses, artists, and decorators create exquisite tablescapes for display. Over the years, Holiday Tables has grown to include numerous special events throughout the four-day fundraiser, including Girls’ Night Out, the ARTrageous Party, a children’s party, bake sale, art boutique, and more. One of the longest running fundraisers in the community, Holiday Tables celebrated its 58^th year in 2025, raising more than $170,000 for Mark Arts.

Designing Women members are champions of the arts throughout the regional community. As Mark Arts’ volunteer auxiliary group with more than 150 active members, Designing Women plays an essential role in volunteerism at ongoing events and programs and by hosting the annual Holiday Tables fundraiser, generating financial support for Mark Arts. Each year, Designing Women members: 

• Attend scheduled membership meetings  

• Volunteer during Holiday Tables 

• Vote and hold office 

• Pay membership dues to Designing Women and Mark Arts
