ART TOGETHER: THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX

Saturday, June 8 | 10 a.m. – Noon | Free Admission

Storytime | 10 a.m. Get inspired to think inventively whilst we read the book Think Outside the Box by Justine Avery & Liuba Syrotiuk.

Art Projects | 10:30 a.m. Draw a prompt from your table. This prompt will instruct you to build a scene or an object. Using the non-art found objects on your table build the prompt! Get creative and think outside the box.

Performance | 11 a.m.  Join choreographers Regina Klenjoski (Wichita) and Tristian Griffin (Kansas City) with their respective dance companies, for an exciting interactive dance workshop inspired by their CONVERGE II: New Spaces project. Enjoy a 20-minute dance performance followed by a 30-minute all-ages movement class. Discover your unique style, harmonize with the surroundings, and embrace creative movement. Welcoming to all – families, adults, art lovers, curious people, dance enthusiasts and all abilities.

Join Bike Walk Wichita and Wichita Public Libraries for July’s Art Together. Decorate bikes, design your dream biking destination then sit back and enjoy a live biking demonstration featuring all kinds of bikes, unicycles, mullet bikes, and several other unique bikes.

Keeper Talk | 11 a.m.

Join Eva from the Wichita Public Library for a story time reading of How do you Hug a Porcupine by Laurie Isop. After seeing his friends hug their favorite animals, a boy tries to hug a porcupine, but the porcupine isn’t sure he wants to be hugged. Engage with story time to see how he discovers the best way to hug the porcupine. After the reading, sign up for a library card and create a hands-on porcupine color wheel. To conclude the program, Mark Arts welcomes a special guest from Tanganyika Wildlife Park—Quilliam the porcupine. Enjoy a special keeper talk about Quilliam and take a photo with him!

Join Mark Arts and community partners for a creative experience that combines art and themes of fall, which are sure to bring out your inner artist. Art Together, Mark Arts’ community outreach program, provides opportunities for families to create and appreciate art. Monthly programs are developed to highlight unique perspectives, themes and stories that exist within our community. Each Art Together program includes children’s story time, an individual hands-on art project, a community art project and performance or demonstration.
