Make Your Mark Workshops

These one-night introductory workshops don’t require any experience or supplies.  Those 21 and older are welcome
to bring their bottled beverage of choice, and we will provide the glasses. Advance registration is required.

CREATING ORDER IN THE STYLE OF PIET MONDRIAN

$40 – Create balance and harmony on your canvas using primary colors, lines and rectangular forms. How can these simple elements be used to make a composition with interest and rhythm?

$40 –Learn how to marble paper with six different patterns– ripple, swirl, the traditional marble pattern and more! Your finished papers can be displayed as finished pieces or even be used for other art projects.

SELF PORTRAIT IN THE STYLE OF ELAINE DE KOONING

February 24  | 7  – 9 p.m.

$40 – Paint a bold and bright portrait of yourself in the energetic style of abstract expressionist Elaine de Kooning. This accomplished landscape and portrait artist’s work was often overshadowed by her husband’s famous career.

INTRODUCTORY INTAGLIO PRINTING: TURN YOUR SKETCHES INTO PRINTS!

March 16 | 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Instructor: Doug Billings

$40 – Perfect for people who love to draw! Students will learn how to draw into a plastic plate using an etching needle. Then they will ink and print the plate to create a dry point intaglio print. It’s a great way to make multiples of one drawing. If you have sketches you’d like to re-create, bring them along!

THE FLINT HILLS IN THE STYLE OF VINCENT VAN GOGH

March 17  | 7  – 9 p.m.

$40 – Paint a regional Kansas landscape in the impressionist style of Vincent Van Gogh. Using bold colors, learn how mark marking can convey motion in painting.

INTRODUCTORY MONO-PRINTING: FREESTYLE!

April 20 | 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Instructor: Doug Billings

$40 – Participants will learn to create multi-colored monoprints by applying different colored inks onto the surface of plexiglass plates. Each color will be a inked independently and printed on top of each other to create a layered effect. This process created a textured, painterly, abstract image—perfect for those who prefer to work spontaneously!

EXPLORING NATURE IN THE STYLE OF ALMA THOMAS

April 28  | 7  – 9 p.m.

$40 – Color is key in the mosaic style painting of Alma Thomas, who developed her signature painting style in her late 70s. Create a rainbow burst inspired by the sunset in this workshop
