Kathy Anderson Floral
Thursday, September 19 | 6 – 8 p.m.
Kathy Anderson, Yellow Zinnias with Cosmos
Kathy Anderson is part of a group called the Putney Painters, which includes Richard Schmid. Mark Arts has 18 Schmid works frequently on display as part of a long-term loan from the K. T. Wiedemann Foundation.
“My passion for painting is rooted in my garden,” Anderson says. “I strive to translate my excitement about the experience of growth, light and translucent colors from the earth to my canvas. Nature has always spoken to me whether it is the rushing of a waterfall or the burst of new green in the Spring. I am awed by the beauty around me and I love to share my vision through my paintings.”
Anderson is also an avid gardener and spends many pleasurable hours close to the flowers that she paints so magnificently. This close contact with her favorite subject provides her with a structural knowledge of flowers.
Anderson paints from life whenever possible and carries her paints on her frequent travels. She has found that the intensity and emotion in her painting flow from her love of her subjects, whether still life, garden, figure or the intimate landscape.
This demonstration occurs in conjunction with Anderson’s two-day workshop, Painting Flowers from Life in the Garden, which takes place September 20 and 21.
