Drawing & Printmaking Classes

Mark Arts October/November weekly class session is October 19 – December 12.

Member enrollment opens on September 14 and public enrollment opens September 21.

There will be no classes November 24-28. 

The health of our visitors is our top priority. Social distancing measures have been implemented in each studio. Studios are cleaned, disinfected, and sanitized between each class. Masks are required. We look forward to creating with you!

Any Experience Level Drawing & Printmaking Courses



The goal of this class is to introduce the students to basic concepts of drawing. There will be four different drawing units in this class: still life, contour outline drawing, negative space and experimental. Each unit will be taught with the purpose of furthering the students’ skills in not only drawing, but also in seeing and understanding what they are looking at and how to best put that to paper through the art of drawing.

Understand the foundation of constructing the human figure. Student work will cover gesture drawing, methods of measurement and basic anatomy. Students will learn from start to finish how to construct the foundation of a successful figure drawing.

Ages: 18 + | Students under the age of 18 should contact Mark Arts to receive a copy of the permission slip.

Learn the fundamentals of constructing the human face. students will learn about placement of features, facial anatomy, planes of the face and individual features.

Printmaking is open to students with no or very little background and experience in printmaking. Students will learn three basic printmaking processes: stone & polyplate, lithography, intaglio printmaking (dry point & copper plate etching) and linoleum plate relief printmaking. Lab Fee is included and includes the use of most studio supplies: inks, printmaking paper, newsprint, chemicals, and solvents.

This is a class for artists looking to practice more from a live model. Bring your favorite materials. This class if for beginners to advanced artists looking to improve their observational skills. There will be a demo on basics of portraiture each class.

Lab fee included. Printmaking is open to all experience levels. Friends University an Mark Arts are teaming up to offer this 2-day accredited workshop for continuous learning. K-12 educators will enjoy this in-depth exploration of the methods and techniques of the many variations of Relief Printmaking. Development includes a focus on skills in carving, inking, and printing relief blocks; inking and printing relief plates, and using stencil techniques for relief mono-printing. Through workshop/studio time, educators will deepen their knowledge base while expanding their portfolio and best practices to foster and constructor creative activities that support student success in the classroom. Investigating and discussion of the history, and the current status of the original hand pulled relief print, as well as proper methods for conservation and exhibition of prints. This offering is open to all experience levels.

Teachers enrolled in this offering for credit must hold a minimum of a Bachelors degree. Tuition fee for credit through Friends University is required above any fees through Mark Arts.
