Drawing, Photography & Printmaking Classes

The health of our visitors is our top priority. Facial coverings are requested to be worn by individuals who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19. BEGINNING DRAWING

The goal of this class is to introduce students to basic concepts of drawing. There will be four different drawing units in this class: still life, contour outline drawing, negative space and experimental. Each unit will be taught to further students’ drawing skills as well as seeing and understanding what they are looking at and how to best put that to paper through the art of drawing.

DRAWING & PAINTING FUNDAMENTALS

This class will build a solid foundation in core skills for drawing
and/or oil painting. Students can choose their preferred medium to work in to build their skills in a supportive group setting with individualized instruction. Topics will include, but are not limited to, still life, contour outline, and negative space.

FOUNDATION FIGURE DRAWING

Understand the foundation of constructing the human figure. Students work will cover gesture drawing, methods of measurement and basic anatomy. Students will learn from start to finish how to construct the foundation of a successful figure drawing.

This class will introduce students to methods and materials for this exciting medium. Composition and elements of design will be a main focus as students familiarize themselves with pastels. A combination of lectures, demonstrations, and quick exercises, this class offers students the opportunity to develop their personal work.

CONCEPTS IN PHOTOGRAPHY

Join us for this studio style class that reviews the history of photography, a variety of traditional and digital techniques, and studio time that leads up to creating a body of work with group critique. Students can use any type of camera and will need to bring their own laptop with photo editing software.

TALLGRASS PRAIRIE PRESS PRINTMAKING STUDIO

Printmaking is open to all experience levels. Students can work on any of the following printmaking processes: lithography (stone or polyplate), intaglio (copper plate, dry point, solar plate & collagraph), relief (wood block and linoleum plates), and monoprints. Lab fees are included and cover the use of basic studio supplies: inks, printmaking paper, newsprint, chemicals and solvents.

BRUSH PEN CALLIGRAPHY AND HAND LETTERING

Learn modern calligraphy in this introductory class! This class is suitable for beginners (no experience necessary) and those who would like to fine-tune proper technique. In this class, we will cover the basic strokes of calligraphy, a little bit of history of this ancient art, and the minuscules (lowercase alphabet). A simple modern alphabet will be used. You will learn HOW to write letters, not simply copy them, so that you can practice at home with confidence. In addition, you will learn how to blend, add shadow and dimension to your lettering. Brush pens are such versatile tools and they have a place in every artist’s toolbox.
