In this course, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of subtractive sculpture by learning how to carve plaster using a variety of hand tools. Emphasizing process and technique, students will explore how to shape, refine, and manipulate solid blocks of plaster to create three-dimensional forms. Through hands-on practice, they will gain an understanding of material properties, tool handling, and the artistic possibilities of reduction-based sculpting. Projects will focus on both abstract and representational forms, encouraging individual creativity while building essential sculptural skills. Open to ages 14 and up.
